New Final Fantasy VII Rebirth patch keeps players from platinum trophy

Players are now unable to earn the Platinum trophy in Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, thanks to a quest near the end of the game that will not complete after updating to the latest patch.

Square Enix released a new update, Patch 10.0.20, on March 20 in response to player feedback regarding the Final Fantasy VII Remake sequel.

While the update added a few graphical performance improvements, it appears to have one unexpected side effect that negatively affected players’ ability to finish 100% of the game. It doesn't help that it can only be remedied using a physical copy of the game.

According to players on Reddit, after installing the new update, they are now unable to complete the final side quest, “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop.” No matter how often they try, the game will not recognize their score or mark the side quest as completed, even if they surpass the highest score on the G-bike minigame.

This bug prevents the player from unlocking the Platinum trophy, which requires them to finish all side quests in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

While some players have discovered a workaround, it only works when you have the disc-only version of the game. To do so, uninstall and reinstall the game using the disc while offline.

Afterward, the game can proceed from any saved game before you start the buggy quest or beat the default high score. Once the quest has been broken, taking your console online and re-updating the game to the latest version should be safe.

While the workaround appears effective, it's only available to those who own physical copies of the game. Square Enix has not published an official statement about this bug or when it will roll out a fix.
