Capcom has released a statement stating that Dragon’s Dogma 2 has sold 2.5 million units despite the issues that plagued the RPG at launch.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 may have had performance issues that turned off some players, but not all have disliked the game as much as the others. According to Capcom, the studio behind the iconic franchises Street Fighter and Resident Evil, the game has sold 2.5 million units as of the time of writing.

The company’s official statement also noted that this brings the total sales of the two games to more than ten million since 2012.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the sequel to 2012’s Dragon Dogma, a fantasy role-playing game critically acclaimed for its “Pawn” system and multiplayer party capabilities. A Pawn is an A.I.-controlled, NPC that follows the protagonist around and pursues actions independently while the player is grinding solo.

The sequel launched on March 22, 2024, and was immediately panned by some players, particularly for its microtransactions and graphical issues. Players note that the game’s video frame rate drops significantly during combat involving a large number of characters.

Capcom responded to the feedback and released an update, Update 1.050, that introduced a feature to cap the game’s frame rate to 30 frames per second (FPS). With the update, Dragon’s Dogma 2 also allows players to start a New Game with existing saved data.
