  • Added in the Season 3 update, classic weapons are returning
  • Guns such as the SPAS 12 are seeing their long awaited return

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone are about to be hit with a wave of nostalgia with some beloved legacy guns finally returning to the popular FPS games.

With Modern Warfare 3 Season 3 bringing back Advanced Warfare weapons alongside a new Snoop Dogg operator, a brand-new battle pass and much more, fans have just been treated to a huge burst of content. However, a datamine of the most recent update reveals the return of some awesome old weapons.

Spotted by MW3 dataminer BobNetwork, four new unreleased weapons were added to the Modern Warfare 3 guns list in the game’s most recent update. The guns can be found in the game’s files under the following names:

  • jup_cp01_sm_pcharlie9
  • jup_jp38_sh_spapa12
  • jup_jp37_dm_kappa98
  • jup_me_shotel

Fans instantly realised exactly which weapons these new Modern Warfare 3 weapons are. For example, the Kappa 98 is the Vanguard Kar 98, the shotgun Spapa12 is the beloved SPAS 12, the submachine gun pcharlie9 is the P90 and the melee weapon, shotel is most likely a shovel.

Some of these guns are seeing their long awaited return in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. For example, the iconic SPAS 12 was last seen in Black Ops Cold War back in 2020. The P90 has been absent in its original form since 2016’s Modern Warfare Remastered, instead replaced by the PDSW 528 in recent games.

As the hub of CoD's modern military aesthetic, Modern Warfare 3 introduction of these iconic weapons is an awesome update indeed. While the game was off to a rough launch with an unearned campaign ending and some truly horrid launch problems, developer Sledgehammer has continued to add content fans really care about.

With multiplayer, zombies and an entire campaign developed in just 16 months, Modern Warfare 3 was already a miracle of publisher demands. However, with new updates bringing the game in line with the quality fans expect from the Call of Duty series, MW3 is a great CoD after all.

With brand-new MW3 perks and the removal of ranked SR boosters for Season 3, Sledgehammer’s latest entry has shaped up quite nicely.
