Breakdown

  • Promised DLC for the Xbox exclusive Redfall has still not released
  • The game’s Hero Pass DLC was sold for £29.99
  • No update has been given on the state of the DLC

Xbox’s awful exclusive co-op vampire game Redfall has failed to deliver its promised Hero Pass DLC over a year after its release.

Released on May 2, 2023, Redfall was an immediate flop for Xbox. The first proper exclusive in over a year for Series X and S, the co-op looter shooter suffered from poor performance, atrocious AI and boring mission design.

Before launch, Redfall charged £99.99 for its Bite Back Edition which included some cosmetics and the promise of “two future heroes”. This DLC was also sold separately for £29.99 for those who purchased the game pre-owned or played via Xbox Game Pass.

As reported by Kotaku, Redfall’s DLC has dropped off the face of the earth. While not officially scrapped, Redfall’s Bite Back DLC has not been discussed since November 2023.

In the game’s last update post, developer Arkane Austin confirmed that development was still underway on the Hero Pass DLC. Since then, no updates have been released.

“We're continuing development of The Hero Pass and we're excited to share more about Redfall's new heroes and other updates later next year,” the developer announced.

However, with Redfall currently holding player numbers of just a few dozen every day, the expectation of the game to actually receive a major DLC is quite low.

Since the game’s release, Redfall has seen some big updates. Big patches have fixed bugs, improved AI, remedied texture issues and added 60fps support on console.

While not the worst game ever, the release of Redfall was a particular low-point for Xbox. Alongside the underwhelming release of Starfield, despite huge patches on the way, the console brand has seen a major lack of exclusives.

However, with Gears 6 allegedly on the way alongside a new Fable, Elder Scrolls and more, Xbox is in a position to have a strong second half to this console generation.

Redfall is available right now on Xbox and PC.
